COHESION (ADAPTATION) FUND 2010

Embroidery on fabric
2015
9 x 17 cm (original dimension)

It is a work manufactured in the process during which Istanbul was selected as the European Capital of Culture. Turkey started the application process for membership status to the European Union in 1959.  A reform package for full membership has been worked upon since. Cohesion Fund is allocated to candidate states to operationalize their “adaptation” procedures to the Union.

The title of the work reflects this process. A 100 euro banknote image with its original size is embroidered by hand on fabric. The stitching indicates a long process, which will take time to be accomplished. Particular codes and images on the money, referring to the European Union, are replaced with the images referring to the Turkey's adaptation process.
